Dr Au is a registered ophthalmologist in both Australia and Singapore. 

He is originally from Toronto, Canada and completed his undergraduate training in the UK at St George's, University of London (formerly known as St George's Hospital Medical School) which included the Moorfields Duke Elder Eye Unit. 

He then moved to Singapore, completing his ACGME-I accredited ophthalmology residency at the prestigious Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC). He then pursued a fellowship in Complex Cataracts at RVEEH. 

Dr Au has also undertaken observerships in the United States, Canada and Singapore with various eminent ophthalmologists.

His diverse global experience allows him to provide individualised care across a wide range of ophthalmic specialties. He is proficient in Mandarin and Cantonese.

Leader

Dr Au is currently the Clinical Lead of the Acute Ophthalmology Service at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital. He contributed to the initial pandemic management at RVEEH based on his SARS & pandemic management experiences from Singapore.

He has undertaken many leadership roles throughout his career. These include serving as the Chief Registrar at RVEEH, Senior Lead Resident at SNEC, Singhealth Residency Commitee Member, Hospital Mess President at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary, Vice President of the International Student Society and Student Interviewer and Ambassador at St George's Hospital Medical School.

Outside of work he served as the Team Manager of the Canadian Dragons of Singapore dragon boat team between 2016-2017 and subsequently took the role of Team Advisor.

Educator

Dr Au is an avid teacher and has contributed to medical education of others throughout his career. He served as an Anatomy Demonstrator for 3 years during medical school, clinical supervisor to medical students in Australia and Singapore and clinical lecturer for SNEC DUKE NUS Ophthalmic Assistant & Technician course. 

During his role as RVEEH Chief registrar, Dr Au was responsible for the educational programme coordination and delivery of the microsurgical training for Victorian trainees. He remains a Cataract Surgical Supervisor to trainee registrars at both RVEEH and YRH. Dr Au is also a member of the Victorian RANZCO Qualifications and Education Committee.

He has also contributed to GENEYE Pod, a Podcast series for the next generation of ophthalmic trainees, created by his fellowship mentor Dr Jacqueline Beltz.
